St Jude, or ‘A Smashing Affair’
I have a confession to make.
For quite some time, predating my vegetarianism, but intensifying over the past year, I have been held in the creamy, zesty and delicious arms of a passionate love affair with avocado.
A day rarely goes by without my consumption of an avocado (it’s the same deal with bananas, but that is a confession for another post.)
As a result it seems we are offering you another low down on an awesome cafe (good!) where we consumed sinful servings of smashed avocado on toast (not so good :c)
I don’t see this attention to the nuances of the art of avocado as boring but I am aware that you may and thus promise to eat something else next time. Whew- now that’s out of the way….
St Judes is a bright and cheery space on the corner of Thurlow and Bourke Street, Redfern. Previously a convenience store, the main room offers a spattering of low stools and wooden tables, the kitchen space raised and slightly out of sight (something I am no longer used to in the delicious onslaught of exposed brick, light bulb and work spaces Sydney has seen). The whole atmosphere is light, breezy and friendly.
Serving up a heavenly pile of avocado, fetta and tomato on rye and RUSH coffee (http://rushroasting.com.au/rushcoffee.html) St Jude offers good fare you can grab for under $15. Breakfast is served until 3 pm and has the usual eggy options, corn and sweet pumpkin fritters and homemade muesli, amongst others, lunch is a bursting mix of toasties and salads,
Andddd the waiter didn’t mind when my theatrical hand gestures sent the sugar bowl flying c: c: !
Love Tah
